Best Bathing Suits for Petite Women

The biggest complaint from petite sized women when shopping for swimsuits is height. Although vertical stripes may elongate your body visually, you will still be the same height. This goes for vertical seams as well which are also slimming. If you want to positively not take any chances on appearing shorter, you should steer clear of horizontal stripes or horizontal anything on a swimsuit.

If you are able to find a swimsuit that you like (and no matter what size you are, if you are female you probably have somewhat of a swimsuit shopping phobia) you may want to stick with two pieces. If you can find a petite sized one piece that fits accurately and doesn’t bunch up in places it isn’t supposed to, than consider it your luckiest summer ever. Otherwise, go for the two piece bathing suits with the rest of us petite sized women.

Now, if you go with the two piece, you are likely to find other things wrong with your body that you aren’t happy with. After all, more of it is exposed with bikinis. Quick tips for swimsuits incoming:

Tummy Trouble

If you don’t like your tummy you can still find a two piece bathing suit that covers it in either the tankini or tunic style suits. Land’s End not only has petite sized swimsuits, but petite sized suits that flatter those areas we are not always proud of. The top piece of this tunic swimsuit can be pulled down and made longer if you want.

Busty or Not

Whether you have a large bust or no bust, the key to choosing a swimsuit is going to be in the material that is in the top piece. If you have a large bust, make sure there is an underwire in the bra. If you have a small bust, there are numerous styles with extra padding and push up fixtures. Whichever the case, if you are self conscious about your bust, do not choose a suit that does not fit correctly or has huge embellishments that bring attention to the bust area.

And don’t forget shoes! You can still add some height and some bling with the right shoes. Check out our post on the Best Beach Shoes over at the Alonai blog (where we’ve also announced the June contest winner).
