New York State of Mind: Springtime in the City

I was so excited to head to New York City again this month. This was only my second time to the “Big Apple”, my first being this past December during the holidays which was fantastic but cold to say the least. Going from 80 degrees in South Florida to a bone chilling 19 degrees and snow in NYC was a shocker but I still loved every minute. This trip was a little different but still a bit chilly.

This last trip a couple weeks ago was still cold (compared to Fort Lauderdale standards) but the snow was gone. Things were blooming and birds were chirping. I’d missed the bustling city streets and the screaming sirens. To some this may sound strange but to me, the city is where I thrive. While my husband was working, (it was a business trip for him) I explored the streets. I decided to ditch the map and wander instead. I explored all kinds of small boutiques, larger chains (Bergdorfs on Fifth is always a must) and tiny side streets lined with cherry blossoms and townhomes.

During the trip, I relied on my trusty leather jacket from Barney’s (similar here), Dolce Vita combat boots in black (find here) and Seven for all Mankind cropped skinny jeans (find here). I also wore my Vince Camuto “Hillari” ankle wedge boots (find here).

Petite Celebrity Style: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon (5’1) has always been one of my favorite petite celebrities. Last week, Reese was spotted running errands in Los Angeles wearing a pair of denim jeans rolled up at the ankle, a navy blue tee and some cute red pumps.

Want the look for yourself? Find all the pieces to Reese’s outfit below and check out more petite celebrity looks here.

4 Nail Polish Shades You Need This Fall

I know, technically it’s still Summer but it’s never too early to start thinking about Fall. Especially when it comes to nail trends. Now that I’m living in South Florida, unfortunately I don’t see any chunky sweaters or boots in my near future, so I have a feeling that my nail polish colors will be a good way of expressing the Fall/Winter feel.

Here’s a list of 4 polish colors I will be using this Fall/Winter. What colors are your favorites?

Fall/Winter Nail Polish Trends
Okay, so the name really grosses me out, but the color is one of my favorites. There’s just something so edgy and strong about it but somehow it’s still classy. These are four of my favorites including: RGB in Oxblood, Tom Ford in Bordeaux Lust, Butter London in Tramp Stamp , and OPI in Got The Blues For Red.

Grey has never been more chic. It may seem bland and boring but think again! It’s classy and sophisticated and a                          great alternative to nude if you’re looking to branch out a bit. Here are some of my favorites including: Christian Dior                    in Vernis, E.L.F in Misty Haze, Essie in Cashmere Bathrobe, and NARS in Galathee.

Eggplant purples are pretty classic for Fall/Autumn. The color goes well with just about anything and is                                            sophisticated while still being fun and edgy. Here are some of my favorites including: Chanel in Vamp, OPI in                                Casino Royale, Dolce & Gabbana in Soft Plum, and Essie in Carry On.

Nail Polish Colors Fall 2013

Nude colors are always a staple in my polish drawer. They’re good for any season and can be so different depending                     on what tint you pick. Here are some of my favorites in a pink undertone, beige undertone and peachy undertone:                           YSL in Beige Leger, Tom Ford in Naked, Essie in Angel Food, and Nordstrom Nail Color in Feeling Flushed.

Petite Closet Essentials

“Fashions fade, style is eternal” – Yves Saint Laurent

Being “fashionable” can be exhausting. While trends are fun, classic essentials are key. Every woman needs a few timeless pieces in her closet. I could throw out everything in my closet, right now, fill it full of things from a store similar to Forever21 and probably be pretty happy for six months. However, things will start to fall apart and the trends will fade. Then what am I left with? A bunch of clothes I don’t like anymore or that don’t fit right because they’re falling apart or have stretched out. Instead, I could take that money and put it towards a few classic, well made, essential pieces that wont fade and will last much longer. Over time, you can add more pieces that you’ll love for years to come. Now don’t get me wrong, I love trends, just in small doses and in addition to classic pieces. 🙂
