Spring 2013 Trends: Petite Friendly Picks

Hi Petites!

Bright colors, sporty dresses, and leather. These are just a few of the current trends for Spring. Need some advice on how to wear them without going overboard? Here’s a breakdown for you with some petite friendly options. Enjoy!

Spring 2013 Trends
  • Bright Colors

Bright colors are everywhere right now. Even if you’re not a huge fan of bright colors or don’t feel like you can pull it off, try adding a bright color to your outfit through an accessory to give your outfit that bright pop of color without overdoing it.

Go bold with the “Beth Romper” from Gambita (find here)

  • Sporty Dresses

Sporty dresses are great. They’re fun and flirty but comfortable and versatile. Dress them up with a sexy heel or dress them down with a pair of fun flats or sandals.

  • Fold Over Clutches

The first time I saw a fold over clutch this season was on petite celebrity, Victoria Beckham. I love the idea, I’m just not sold on how comfortable it is to carry a clutch around all day. What do you think of fold over clutches for the day?

  • Black and White

Black and white: so classic, but so trendy this season. Try color blocking with black on the bottom, white on top and add a pop of color with a statement necklace, bracelet, or watch.

  • Leather

Leather for Spring? Might sound strange but trust me it’s out there! Try a cute leather peplum tank or go with something more subtle by wearing a piece with small leather accents like these options below.

Trend Alert: Polka Dots For Petites

Polka dots! They’re fun, they’re flirty, and they’re everywhere. I’ve spotted them (no pun intended) on everything from miniskirts to manicures this season. The truth is, the polka dot is a timeless pattern that has been around for years and years — it just seems to be having a major moment this Spring. While anyone can wear the polka dot pattern, there are of course a few tips when it comes to styling for your body type. When picking out a polka dot piece there are two “rules” I always follow: number one, stick to smaller dots — they’re more flattering and in my mind less “costumey” (if that’s even a word). Second, if you feel self conscious about a certain part of your body avoid wearing the pattern around that area because just like any pattern, they draw the eye in.

Do you have any polka dots in your closet??

Here are some of my favorite polka dot pieces and accessories:

The Perfect Fit: Wedding Shoes For Petite Feet

Hi Petites!

Wedding season is here once again and as most of us with small feet know, finding shoes that actually fit can be a challenge. When it comes to shopping for your big day, the last thing you want to worry about is finding a shoe that fits. I found my wedding shoes (below) from the UK brand, Bourne. You can find their current wedding collection here.

Here are a few options below to get you started, including styles from Emyloo Shoes, Pretty Small Shoes, and Nordstrom and check out the footwear section in the Petite Fashion Directory for more designers that offer small shoes. Emyloo Shoes offers shoes made to order with sizes starting at 2.5 and Pretty Small Shoes start as small as size 2.

Petite Celebrity Style: Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria is one of my favorite petite celebrities — she always looks flawless. Earlier this week Eva was spotted in Los Angeles wearing a cream Reese + Riley blazer over a casual tee with cobalt jeans. I love blazers, especially when they’re dressed down like Eva’s with a basic tee.

If you want to try a look like Eva’s but don’t want to break the bank, take a look at the pieces I found below. The look for less includes my new favorite tee from Old Navy, Rockstar Jeans, also from Old Navy, and a Halogen petite blazer from Nordstrom.
