Store Review: Fall Fashions at the New Talbots Store in Town Center, Corte Madera, CA

The first chill of autumn is in the air. It’s one of my favorite fashion times of the year. I love to update my wardrobe with a new sweater, cozy knit, or jacket.

I recently visited the new Talbots store in Town Center, Corte Madera CA to explore their new fall collection. Talbots generally carries a fairly classic style of clothes. I found the new store bright and airy with a good selection of petite sizes. The dressing rooms were also spacious and well lit. If you live in the bay area it’s worth stopping by the store.

Another thing I like about Talbots is that you can also find plus-size petites online. Remember, petite just means you are under 5’4″. Petites come in all shapes. One of my favorite finds was this soft wool double-faced jacket in grey and blue. The jacket material was soft, draped beautifully and the cut was a great fit for my petite frame. It also has a winged collar which added extra flare. Loved this jacket paired with my favorite jeans (Page Denim – Verdugo Ankle found here). It would also look great dressed up with blue or grey trousers. It is a versatile piece as you could use this as outerwear on a warmer fall day or a comfy, casual blazer in doors.

If you want to take a walk on the wild side and play with the Leopard/Animal print trend, there was a haircalf & leather foldover oversized clutch that would be a fun and easy way to incorporate some leopard print spots into your wardrobe. The haircalf exterior felt nice and soft. There is an interior zip pocket and 2 internal slip pockets. Size is 8” X 12” L 1 ¼ W with twill Chino lining. The size of the bag was a good proportion for petites. This would be great bag for evening and would go with everything.

For those that hate shopping, don’t have the time to shop, or those that have a hard time knowing what works best for their body type, Stitch Fix is here to help.

When Stitch Fix began in 2011 they didn’t offer petite clothing but now, thanks to what I’d assume was an overwhelming demand, they’re finally offering petites!  So for those of you that are interested in trying the Stitch Fix service, head over to their site and simply fill out the Stitch Fix Style Profile. Here are some of the FAQ’s regarding their new petite sizes:

Do you offer petite sizing?

Yes! We are very excited to offer petite sizes to our clients! We now offer petite along with our regular selection of inventory.

What is the difference between your regular inventory and petite sizes?

Our petite selection offers our clients access to inventory with shorter sleeves, narrower shoulders, and shorter hems and inseams—all to fit you better!

Now that you offer petites, do I need to change my size?

No need to change your sizes, they stay the same! Just let your Stylist know that you would like to receive petites by updating your Style Profile.

Who are petite sizes offered to?

Our petite sizes are recommended for clients 5’3” and under. If you feel that petite sizes fit you best, and you are over 5’3”, please reach out to customer service at hello@stitchfix.com and they can help you find your best fit.

I’m petite on top, but not bottom. Can I get regular-sizing for certain items & petite sizing for others?

Absolutely! Go to your Style Profile and let us know which categories (tops, bottoms etc.) you are interested in receiving petite items. And, make sure to leave your Stylist a note when you schedule a Fix!______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I’ll be honest and say that Stitch Fix doesn’t sound incredibly appealing for me. The only reason I say this is because I enjoy shopping waaaay too much but I certainly love the idea so now that they have petites I may have to try it out!

Have you tried Stitch Fix? If so, let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your feedback!

Lift, Tone, Burn – Pure Barre Fort Lauderdale

A fitness post? Crazy, I know, but it’s the beginning of a New Year, I’m on a health kick and lets face it, this kick probably wont last much longer so I might as well talk about it while I can.

I was recently invited to participate in a blogger’s Pure Barre fitness class by Aileen who blogs at Newsy Parents and helped organize the class here in Fort Lauderdale. Believe it or not this wasn’t my first time taking a Pure Barre class so I already knew what I was in for — unbelievable soreness. Why did I sign up for this again? I did ballet for about ten years so when I heard about Pure Barre I was excited to try it out. Unfortunately, after taking a class, I realized the closest thing Pure Barre offers to ballet is the barre. Instead of looking graceful and elegant at the barre (like a ballerina would), I found myself shaking uncontrollably and sweating like crazy. Not cute. But hey, it was an amazing workout and for that, I will definitely continue lifting, toning, and burning with Pure Barre. They even provided us with some Pure Barre “sticky socks” which are a necessity so you don’t fall on your face (or worse, find yourself doing the splits when you physically can’t).

The Pure Barre Story:

Pure Barre is the largest, most established barre franchise in the nation, with more than 180 studios across the country, and more opening every month. Pure Barre is a total body workout that utilizes the ballet barre to perform small, isometric movements, which burn fat, sculpt muscles and create long, lean physiques.

Pure Barre was founded by dancer, choreographer and fitness guru Carrie Rezabek Dorr. Carrie opened her first studio in the basement of an office building in Birmingham, MI in 2001. With no initial clients, staff, signage or even a bathroom, Carrie successfully grew Pure Barre into the dynamic company it is today.

In July of 2009, Pure Barre became a franchise and has exploded in popularity, due to its extremely effective technique (which transforms the shape of a woman’s body in record-breaking time); friendly, high-energy atmosphere; and fun, motivating music.

Pure Barre is more than just a workout; it’s a lifestyle. At Pure Barre, women share a sense of community, in which they are inspired and empowered by each other’s fitness and lifestyle goals. In addition to classes, Pure Barre also offers DVDs, equipment and exercise apparel.

If you live here in South Florida and would like to try a Pure Barre class for yourself, check out Pure Barre Fort Lauderdale. They’re having their grand opening this weekend, January 31 – February 2, with demonstrations, giveaways and more. They are located in the Union Planters Plaza, next to Dick’s Sporting Goods and Whole Foods at 2408 North Federal Highway, in Fort Lauderdale.

Etiquette Boutique

Moving to a new city always proves its challenges. For me, this includes finding new local boutiques. I know, it sounds crazy, but there’s just something I love about shopping locally and knowing what I’m buying is more one-of-a-kind than anything else I’d find in a store at a mall. After moving to Fort Lauderdale, I had a hard time finding a great boutique — until I heard about Etiquette.

Etiquette Boutique here in Fort Lauderdale is just what I was looking for. The boutique is locally-owned by mother and son team, Nola and David Harris who have owned a string of successful boutiques both in Nashville, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky. After researching all of South Florida for about five months, they decided Fort Lauderdale was the clear choice for their flagship of Etiquette stores, opening the first boutique at The Harbor Shops in early 2012. The styles inside Etiquette Boutique are hand-selected and offer a mix of both investment and trendy pieces. Filling a void in the Fort Lauderdale shopping scene, Etiquette offers savvy shoppers an alternative to malls and online shopping with affordable pieces to round out their wardrobe — just what I was looking for! With about 70 new styles arriving weekly, the selection is perpetually changing – giving fashion enthusiasts all the more reason to check back often. Etiquette only pulls about six of each style to ensure the dreaded “OMG-she’s-wearing-the-same-dress” moment is avoided whenever possible.

In the coming weeks, Etiquette will be opening their second location here in Fort Lauderdale at Union Planters Plaza with an evening of fashion and fun. The event will be coordinated by Aileen from Newsy Parents. Myself, along with five other local fashion bloggers including, Chic Stylista, Sky Style Couture Life, StyledWithPoise, April Golightly, and Living In Color Print, will be on-hand at the event to style and offer festive fashion tips.

**Event date TBD** Stay tuned!
