How To Dress Without Stress This Winter?

We take a look at some fashion ideas from Warehouse in search of a dress that will give you a cool head (and a hot look!) this winter.

Dressing for winter means two things, depending on your outlook. If you’re a glass-half-full kind of a person, the notion of a winter dress means party-time – sparkles! Bold accessories! High shoes that just about permit a shuffle on the dance floor then an obligatory taxi home!

And if you’re a glass-half-empty kind of a person, winter dresses means something else…long sleeves, high necks, woolly coverage that probably itches any skin underneath it that isn’t covered by another layer of thermals or t shirts.

There is a middle ground, friends. The recession has brought out some wearable styles for the decadent party animal and the functional intellectual dresser. Simplicity of shape is key to all dresses this winter – with fabric, quality and finish signalling the occasion, be it a drinks party or an important meeting.

The LBD remains a firm favourite – with bolder ladies going for red – and the Warehouse Body Con variations area a great example of the street-ready dresses that you can layer up this winter. Short skirt styles and mid-length sleeves mean you can make these casual with woolly tights and boots – or dress up with very simple accessories and dramatic hair and make-up.

Sheer panels and embellishments are the name of the game when it comes to party chic this season. Sheer spotted sleeves or lace backs are a constant theme – again gorgeous with some of the Body Con variations.

Dressers who are entranced by the bondage and Victoriana lace trends can try to lace-sleeved leather dress from Warehouse, which lets the fabric do the talking and with a simple tunic-cut dress, combines a feminine simplicity with tough textures.

There’s also room for color and longer lengths – the mid-length skirt has been huge in 2011, and it remains a trend for the winter and into 2012. Fine belts at the waist, soft jewel and jade tones, with pleated skirts: be careful not to overload with baggy cardigans unless you want to channel pure granny. Dress up with chunky-heeled shoes and a blazer.
