Saturday Shopping

My sis called me up to go shopping with her to find a suit for her very important internship interview. We headed to the Eaton Centre (downtown Toronto) in search of the perfect suit, with $500 budget we thought we’d have no problem finding something suitable in that range. My sister is a ‘classic sophisticate’ and she wanted her personality to shine by choosing an outfit that didn’t over power her small frame but expressed her style. After all, her interviews are in Toronto and they may be paying attention to these details.
Our first stop was Banana Republic, where we headed straight for the petite department. I was quite excited they had this section, but the selection was limited. Jen and I chose one beige coloured suit with pink undertones and a light pink hued shirt to go underneath. It fit, in the least flattering way possible. It was boxy and screamed “off the rack”. I was very disappointed in the quality for the price point, the suit priced over $500 with tax. We both agreed that she could find something she loved enough to equal her rent money.
Our second stop was ‘The Bay’, where we split up to scour the 3rd floor. We found every bad association with the word petite, everything was ultra conservative, wide, unflattering and quite frankly too “mature”. In the midst of all the granny country club get ups was a small taste of what could have been. A line called ‘I.N.C petite’ which was youthful, contemporary, and petite. I guess this customer doesn’t shop the Bay 3rd floor because the selection was very minimal. But look what I found online @ Macy’s:
a little something for me…

and a perfect dark chocolate suit for Jen…..

So, after a yummy lunch at ‘Cultures’. We tried our luck at ‘Mexx’, ‘BCBG’, ‘RW&Co;’, ‘Jacob’, ‘F Carriere’ and H&M; and came out empty handed (I wasn’t shopping). What I hoped was going to be a great time to shop because of the sales turned out to be dreadful, if you’re in the market for a suit. What good is an amazing blazer at 70% off if the only matching pants sold out 2 months ago? My lovely sister was so frustrated by the lousy fit and poor selection at all the stores that she decided to wear her tried and true black suit from ‘Victoria’s Secret’. She’s having the hem taken down a half an inch to go with her shoe purchase from Aldo (black pumps $69.99 reg. price) with a new crew neck shirt (that she hasn’t picked up yet) and once she’s freshly pressed and pearled she’ll wow them with her classic sophisticated self.

What I yearned for in passing:
A sunshine yellow chanel inspired suit from ‘H & M’
The ADO(RED) shirt from the ‘Gap’ Project Red

I.N.C. is good if you wear a size 4P or above. Their size 2s are HUGE and hard to find. I really think the typical petite shopper at The Bay is 5’2 and a size 8P or so. I really think there’s some sort of conspiracy going on here. I think there’s a lack of petite styles because tailors want more money!
