Store Review: Fall Fashions at the New Talbots Store in Town Center, Corte Madera, CA

The first chill of autumn is in the air. It’s one of my favorite fashion times of the year. I love to update my wardrobe with a new sweater, cozy knit, or jacket.

I recently visited the new Talbots store in Town Center, Corte Madera CA to explore their new fall collection. Talbots generally carries a fairly classic style of clothes. I found the new store bright and airy with a good selection of petite sizes. The dressing rooms were also spacious and well lit. If you live in the bay area it’s worth stopping by the store.

Another thing I like about Talbots is that you can also find plus-size petites online. Remember, petite just means you are under 5’4″. Petites come in all shapes. One of my favorite finds was this soft wool double-faced jacket in grey and blue. The jacket material was soft, draped beautifully and the cut was a great fit for my petite frame. It also has a winged collar which added extra flare. Loved this jacket paired with my favorite jeans (Page Denim – Verdugo Ankle found here). It would also look great dressed up with blue or grey trousers. It is a versatile piece as you could use this as outerwear on a warmer fall day or a comfy, casual blazer in doors.

If you want to take a walk on the wild side and play with the Leopard/Animal print trend, there was a haircalf & leather foldover oversized clutch that would be a fun and easy way to incorporate some leopard print spots into your wardrobe. The haircalf exterior felt nice and soft. There is an interior zip pocket and 2 internal slip pockets. Size is 8” X 12” L 1 ¼ W with twill Chino lining. The size of the bag was a good proportion for petites. This would be great bag for evening and would go with everything.

I’m Catherine Couture., a very petite 4’10. I am originally from Northern Minnesota (not a lot of petites live there) but have called the San Francisco Bay Area home for many years. I enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and my mini poodle Louie when I’m not shopping. My background is in Financial Services but I have always loved clothes and fashion.

I decided to start blogging about petite fashion because of my frustration over the lack of petite clothing options. On a recent trip to NYC, I visited Macy’s Herald Square (the world’s largest department store). When I asked about the petite department, I was told there was no petite department and there were a few petite pieces mixed in by designer. I didn’t find much.

I decided to start blogging to help answer the question that always comes up when I meet other petites: “Where do you find clothes”?

Cheers! Catherine

For those that hate shopping, don’t have the time to shop, or those that have a hard time knowing what works best for their body type, Stitch Fix is here to help.

When Stitch Fix began in 2011 they didn’t offer petite clothing but now, thanks to what I’d assume was an overwhelming demand, they’re finally offering petites!  So for those of you that are interested in trying the Stitch Fix service, head over to their site and simply fill out the Stitch Fix Style Profile. Here are some of the FAQ’s regarding their new petite sizes:

Do you offer petite sizing?

Yes! We are very excited to offer petite sizes to our clients! We now offer petite along with our regular selection of inventory.

What is the difference between your regular inventory and petite sizes?

Our petite selection offers our clients access to inventory with shorter sleeves, narrower shoulders, and shorter hems and inseams—all to fit you better!

Now that you offer petites, do I need to change my size?

No need to change your sizes, they stay the same! Just let your Stylist know that you would like to receive petites by updating your Style Profile.

Who are petite sizes offered to?

Our petite sizes are recommended for clients 5’3” and under. If you feel that petite sizes fit you best, and you are over 5’3”, please reach out to customer service at and they can help you find your best fit.

I’m petite on top, but not bottom. Can I get regular-sizing for certain items & petite sizing for others?

Absolutely! Go to your Style Profile and let us know which categories (tops, bottoms etc.) you are interested in receiving petite items. And, make sure to leave your Stylist a note when you schedule a Fix!______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I’ll be honest and say that Stitch Fix doesn’t sound incredibly appealing for me. The only reason I say this is because I enjoy shopping waaaay too much but I certainly love the idea so now that they have petites I may have to try it out!

Have you tried Stitch Fix? If so, let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your feedback!

Classic Wool Coats For Petites

It’s been a crazy few months and I apologize for not regularly maintaining the site like I have in the past — but I’m back now. I plan on posting at least once a week again with fresh new ideas, topics, petite clothing finds, and much more.

We recently made the move back to the Pacific Northwest from South Florida. Our time in South Florida was something we’ll never forget — we made lots of amazing friends and had great time — but being back in the Northwest is wonderful. Okay, enough about that, lets talk fashion.

The weather’s been unseasonable warm and dry here for the Northwest. By warm, I don’t exactly mean beach weather, but it’s been really beautiful for Winter. I still needed a new coat though. I bought a classic black wool peacoat from Nordstrom years ago (like, we’re talking ten years ago) that held up like a champ. I love buying classic pieces that I know will last but after ten years, it was time.

I’d been doing my research on coats and knew that Burberry was going to be my final decision. I know they’re expensive but when it comes to classic pieces that I know I’ll wear for years, it’s worth it to me. I read a review from Jean at Extra Petite saying that the Burberry Rushworth coat is a great pick for its “sleek silhouette and funnel collar, with edgier buckle on the underside”. I decided to go for it so I ordered it in a size 2 and picked it up at my local Neiman Marcus. The coat fit perfectly. I love its streamline silhouette and funnel collar (for a little edge and  to keep that cold wind off my neck!). The coat is very heavy and exceptionally well made so I have no doubt it will last me for many years to come.

Burberry Petites

If the Burberry Rushworth isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, I’ve done my research on some other classic wool coats perfect for petite figures below.

Do you have a favorite wool coat for the chillier months? Let me know! I’d love to hear about them.
